Catheterization for Residual Urine

  1. Have patient empty bladder; measure urine.
  2. Perform hand hygiene.
  3. Insert catheter.
  4. Measure urine obtained.
  5. Remove catheter.
  6. Provide perineal care, if needed.
  7. Dispose of supplies. Perform hand hygiene.
  8. Document amount of residual urine and any abnormal urine characteristics.
