Transparent Dressings

Provide privacy, and expose wound site.

  1. Cut off top of disposable waterproof bag, and place within work area.
  2. Perform hand hygiene; and don gloves, gown, mask, and goggles.
  3. Remove old dressing, and discard it in waterproof bag.
  4. Remove gloves and discard them.
  5. Prepare sterile supplies.
  6. Pour solution onto 4 × 4 gauze pads.
  7. Don sterile gloves (per institutional policy).
  8. Cleanse and dry wound.
  9. Inspect condition of wound.
  10. Evaluate patient for pain.
  11. Apply transparent dressing, avoiding wrinkles.
  12. Remove gloves, gown, mask, and goggles.
  13. Position patient comfortably.
  14. Dispose of dressing materials.
  15. Perform hand hygiene.
  16. Document findings and dressing change.
