Oxygen Hood Newborn

  1. Perform hand hygiene and apply clean gloves.
  2. Verify the patient's identity using two patient identifiers in accordance with institutional policy.
  3. Place the infant on a prepared warmer bed and attach the appropriate monitoring equipment.
  4. Pronate the infant per unit policy.
  5. Apply the appropriately sized oxygen hood over the infant's head, leaving enough space for the outflow of air around the neck area.
  6. Position a calibrated oxygen analyzer tip near the infant's nose.
  7. Adjust the oxygen level by using an oxygen blender to obtain the desired effect.
  8. Remove gloves and discard in proper trash receptacle. Perform hand hygiene.
  9. Document the procedure in the patient's record.
